19/05/2025 (Agence Europe) – On Friday 16 May, the European Union Prize for Literature was awarded to the Italian writer Nicoletta Verna for her novel I Giorni di Vetro, at a ceremony organised as part of the Book World Prague 2025 trade fair. The prize, organised by a consortium made up of the Federation of European Publishers and the European and International Booksellers Federation, and supported by the Creative Europe programme, showcases emerging fiction writers and promotes literary diversity. Two special mentions went to Philippe Marczewski (Belgian), for Quand Cécile, and Sheila Armstrong (Irish), for Falling Animals. The European Commissioner for Culture, Glenn Micallef, praised the winners for embodying “European talent, diversity and values”, and pledged the Commission’s commitment to the literary and publishing sector.
