European Commission launches a public consultation to strengthen its future consumer protection policy

19/05/2025 (Agence Europe)On Monday 19 May, the European Commission opened a public consultation on the next consumer agenda for the period 2025-2030. Citizens, NGOs, associations and public authorities have until 11 August to contribute, particularly with a view to establishing new ways of strengthening consumer protection in the EU. This consultation comes as the Commission is due to present its ‘Digital Fairness Act’ (see EUROPE 13497/6) by the end of the year and is trying to stem the health and safety problems created by the massive influx of products from foreign online sales platforms onto the European market (see EUROPE 13598/7). In 2014, nearly 4,137 alerts were registered in the EU for defective or dangerous products, the vast majority of which arrived from China (see EUROPE 13623/11).
