25/04/2025 (Agence Europe) – “Huawei representatives can no longer meet European Commission officials. They cannot have access to the Commission’s buildings”, said Olof Gill, a spokesman for the European Union institution, on Thursday 24 April. This decision was taken following revelations about an ongoing investigation by the Belgian justice system into alleged corruption of MEPs by lobbyists from the Chinese digital giant (see EUROPE 13600/19). On the other hand, Mr Gill said that representatives of organisations of which Huawei is a member will continue to have access to Commission officials, unless, during the meetings concerned, subjects are discussed that relate to Huawei’s interests – any decision having to be taken “on a case-by-case basis”.
