25/04/2025 (Agence Europe) – On Friday 25 April, the Council of the EU extended the restrictive measures targeting a total of 106 individuals and 22 entities linked to the Burmese regime until 30 April 2026, in view of “continuing grave situation in Burma” (see EUROPE 13400/27, 13514/5). The persons and entities included in the sanctions regime are subject to an asset freeze and the provision of funds or economic resources to them is prohibited. The individuals are also banned from travel within the EU. Other restrictive measures, such as the embargo on arms and equipment, remain in place. The EU says it is ready to “impose additional restrictive measures targeting those responsible for the ongoing violence and serious human rights violations” and will continue to ensure that these measures “do not harm the broader Myanmar population”.
