On Thursday 3 April, MEPs adopted a resolution from the Committee on Industry, Research and Energy (ITRE) calling for measures to support the competitiveness of energy-intensive industries in the EU (see EUROPE 13602/4). Their demands focus on reducing energy prices, measures to protect the steel sector from global overcapacity and efforts to limit carbon leakage.
The few amendments adopted at the plenary session emphasise the technological neutrality to be taken into account in the transition. In particular, it calls on the European Commission to support carbon capture and storage and low-carbon hydrogen.
