03/04/2025 (Agence Europe) – The European Commissioner for Intergenerational Fairness, Youth, Culture and Sport, Glenn Micallef, travelled to Lviv (Ukraine) on Thursday 3 April to mark its start as ‘European Youth Capital 2025’. Lviv was the first Ukrainian city to be awarded the title, as the country continues to face the Russian war of aggression. “The city was awarded the title in recognition of its youth-led vision of building resilient communities and a democratic, inclusive and European future, even in the midst of war”, says a European Commission press release. The ‘European Youth Capitals’ have been designated each year since 2009 by the European Youth Forum for their initiatives to empower young people and promote their active participation in public life.
