14/03/25 (Agence Europe) – On Friday 14 March, the European Commission published its ‘Consumer Conditions Scoreboard’ for European citizens. According to the data, 68% have confidence in the safety of the products they buy and 70% believe that their rights are respected by retailers. However, there are still some very real risks associated with the growth of sales platforms located outside the EU. In particular, the study cites “scams, false advice and misleading advertising practices”. Almost one in two consumers (45%) has already been a victim. Aware of the problem of managing the millions of parcels entering the EU from third countries, the Commission wants to use the reform of the European Customs Code to maximise its efforts (see EUROPE 13573/4). It is also preparing a Digital Fairness Act to remedy the grey areas in the current regulations. (IS)
