14/03/25 (Agence Europe) – “We seemed to have been left at the curb”. Following the publication by the European Commission on 7 March of its ‘roadmap’ for women’s rights (see EUROPE 13595/1), the European Disability Forum believes that the document lacks “actions to protect [...] the rights of women and girls with disabilities”. In a press release issued on 12 March, the organisation points out the lack of references to the United Nations Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities and the absence of measures to encourage inclusive decision-making processes, prohibit forced sterilisation and reduce precariousness. While it considers the document to be an “important political declaration”, the EDF - which had questioned the Commission prior to its publication (see EUROPE 13589/13) - considers these shortcomings to be “inexcusable and incomprehensible”.
