Following the announcement of the results of the Innovation Fund 2023 (IF23) call for proposals, the leaders of 77 decarbonisation projects from 18 European countries have signed their grant agreements, with operations scheduled to take place between 2025 and 2031.
Funded by the EU Emissions Trading System (see EUROPE 13393/16), the grants range from €1.4 million to €262 million, with an emissions reduction potential of 397.6 million tonnes of CO2 equivalent over the first ten years of project operation.
In addition, the managers of six projects on the reserve list were invited to prepare their grant agreements. Together, these projects could contribute to an overall reduction in emissions of 24.6 million tonnes of CO2 equivalent.
These 83 projects cover sectors such as energy-intensive industries, renewable energies, storage, industrial carbon management, carbon-neutral mobility and buildings.
“These projects will contribute to Europe’s transition to a carbon-neutral economy, while strengthening industrial competitiveness and the resilience of the supply chain,” says the Commission in a press release. (Original version in French by Pauline Denys)
