Joint purchase of gas - European Commission opens second “medium-term” call for tenders

On Wednesday 12 March, the European Commission officially launched its second “medium-term” call for tenders to coordinate gas purchases under the AggregateEU platform (see EUROPE 13593/13).

Buyers in the EU and the Energy Community have until 17 March to submit and aggregate their gas demand for several six-month periods from July 2025 to October 2030.

Then, from 18 to 21 March, the call for expressions of interest will be issued to potential international suppliers.

The AggregateEU platform aims to bring together supply and demand. Individual companies will then negotiate their contracts bilaterally.

As we continue our energy transition, securing a predictable gas supply for our Union remains essential in these turbulent times. If we bring our full weight to bear on the market, our companies will be able to access stable supplies on better terms,” said the European Commissioner for Energy, Dan Jørgensen.

This new call for tenders follows an initial “medium-term” cycle, which began in February 2024, and previous short-term cycles which began in 2023. (Original version in French by Pauline Denys)
