During their meeting alongside the CERAWeek 2025 conference in Houston (USA) on Tuesday 11 March, European Energy Commissioner Dan Jørgensen and US Energy Secretary Chris Wright agreed to strengthen the partnership between Europe and the United States in the field of energy.
Without going into the details of the discussions, a European source said that a closer partnership between the two parties would strengthen Europe’s energy security and competitiveness and “speed up our transition away from Russian energy, while at the same time offering very significant potential for the American energy industry”.
A high-level working group will be set up to accelerate technical cooperation.
Not only was the liquefied natural gas (LNG) partnership discussed, but also other sources of energy.
Asked about the EU’s position vis-à-vis the United States, a Commission spokeswoman said that the EU was not abandoning its energy transition objectives. “What we want to be signalling to the US is that we are a serious relevant market to them going forward”.
