The European Commission has received 337 applications for new projects under the Innovation Fund 2023 (IF23) devoted to net-zero technologies, the Commission announced on Wednesday 17 April.
A total budget of €4 billion has been made available using revenue from the EU Emissions Trading System (ETS).
As the number of applications far exceeds the available budget, not all projects will receive support.
However, the interest generated “confirms the crucial role the Innovation Fund plays in supporting the EU’s manufacturing capacity for net-zero technologies, and in reducing emissions as part of the European Green Deal”, says the Commission in a press release.
The applications concern energy-intensive industries (204 applications), including carbon capture, utilisation and storage, renewable energy (64), energy storage (35) and mobility (34), including maritime, air and road transport.
The Executive Agency for Climate, Infrastructure and Environment (CINEA) will be responsible for reviewing the applications. (Original version in French by Pauline Denys)
