17/04/24 (Agence Europe) – On Wednesday 17 April, the European Commission launched a consultation on the monitoring and control of drug precursors, chemical substances that can be diverted to produce drugs, according to a press release. This initiative is part of the EU’s vision of zero tolerance on drugs. The Commission wants to “identify possible solutions to prevent the diversion of drug precursors, while reducing unnecessary barriers to legitimate trade. Subsequently, the Commission could present an initiative to revise the current EU regulations”. In 2020, 473,000 tonnes of drug precursors would have been seized in the EU. According to the Member States, only 25% of substances seized were controlled substances in 2020. The consultation is open until 10 July. Further information: https://aeur.eu/f/bt4 (SP)
