ACER consults on peak-shaving products to reduce electricity consumption

Brussels, 06/03/2025 (Agence Europe)The Agency for the Cooperation of Energy Regulators (ACER) is to consult on the impact of peak-shaving products, which allow market players to reduce their electricity consumption during periods of peak demand in exchange for compensation. In the event of a crisis in electricity prices, Member States may ask network operators to use these products to reduce demand, as detailed in the Electricity Market Design Regulation (see EUROPE 13454/27). In addition, this regulation requires ACER to assess the potential impact of developing these products under normal market conditions. The agency is therefore opening a public consultation between 20 March and 17 April (https://aeur.eu/f/frc ). It will then produce an assessment on which the European Commission will base any proposals for amending the regulation to introduce peak-shaving products beyond crisis situations. (PLD)
