05/02/2025 (Agence Europe) – The Community of European Railway and Infrastructure Companies (CER) has welcomed the priority given to electrification in the European Commission’s Action Plan on Affordable Energy Prices, according to a press release published on Tuesday 4 February (see EUROPE 13563/10). It hopes that this action plan will support “sustainable mobility while enhancing the railway sector’s contribution to the EU’s climate and energy goals”. To prevent a reverse modal shift towards road transport, the CER is calling for: - enhanced support measures, such as increased tax incentives, State aid and innovative energy contracts; - promotion of further electrification of rail infrastructure, including last mile; - encouragement of strategies such as risk hedging and direct market procurement to mitigate price volatility.
