The next plenary session of the European Committee of the Regions (CoR), from 19 to 21 February, will mark the start of the next mandate. All CoR members are appointed for a five-year term. The new President, First Vice-Chairman and the new Bureau will also be elected.
Kata Tüttő (PES, Hungarian), a local councillor from Budapest, is standing for the position of CoR President to replace Vasco Alves Cordeiro (PES, Portuguese), who has been at the head of the institution since 2022. Her candidacy will be made official at the PES group meeting on Tuesday 4 February.
The EPP, for its part, has nominated Juan Manuel Moreno, President of the Junta of Andalusia, to stand for the post of CoR President.
The EPP and PES are said to have agreed that the President of Andalusia and Kata Tüttő should share the five-year presidency of the CoR.
Juan Manuel Moreno, who was nominated by the EPP group as its candidate on Friday 31 January, has stated that he would prefer to take up the post for the second two-and-a-half-year term (https://aeur.eu/f/fbd ).
Kata Tüttő would therefore begin the first half of the term. The vote will take place at the CoR plenary session on Thursday 20 February. (Original version in French by Lionel Changeur)
