22/01/25 (Agence Europe) – On Monday 20 January, the Agency for the Cooperation of Energy Regulators (ACER) announced that it was forming a group of experts to assess the flexibility needs of the EU’s electricity system. Due to the massive growth in renewable energies, the need for flexibility is set to double by 2030, according to ACER. The regulation on the design of the electricity market (see EUROPE 13560/27) therefore requires the Agency to carry out an assessment of flexibility needs, which should be published in July 2027 to guide political decisions. The group of experts will therefore help to develop an analysis tool and make recommendations on modelling techniques and solutions for simulating and quantifying the system’s flexibility needs. The group will operate until April 2027, with the possibility of an extension. Applications are open until 10 February 2025. To see the call, go to https://aeur.eu/f/f5s (PLD)
