22/01/25 (Agence Europe) – On Monday 27 January, Germany will be addressing its counterparts at the EU ‘Agriculture’ Council in Brussels on the outbreak of foot-and-mouth disease in the country and the measures being taken to prevent the spread of this epizootic (see EUROPE 13559/19). ‘Other business’ items on the agenda for the meeting of the EU agriculture ministers include: fair international trade practices for farmers, particularly with regard to import tolerances for residues of plant protection products regulated in the EU (information from Luxembourg), and the need to better combat unfair trade practices and prevent the abuse of dominant positions by certain players in the food supply chain (information from Slovakia). With regard to fisheries, Spain, France and Italy will discuss legal and scientific action in the context of the management of fish stocks in the western Mediterranean (see EUROPE 13543/5). (LC)
