The timetable for the Polish Presidency of the Council of the EU is becoming clearer, with confirmation of the first trilogue dates for environmental legislation scheduled for the end of January.
No less than three inter-institutional negotiations between the Council of the EU and the European Parliament will be launched on 28 January, with the directive on environmental claims (see EUROPE 13538/3), the regulation on detergents (see EUROPE 13538/4), which must guarantee the safe use of detergents in order to protect people’s health and limit their environmental impact, and the protection of groundwater against pollution (see EUROPE 13538/2), which aims to revise the lists of pollutants whose presence in groundwater must be monitored and controlled.
After adopting its general approach in December on the regulation on the loss of plastic pellets to the environment, the Council of the EU will also begin negotiations with the European Parliament on this subject on 29 January (see EUROPE 13547/7). However, MEPs still have to validate the move to inter-institutional negotiations in a vote in the Environment Committee scheduled for Thursday 16 January.
