10/01/2025 (Agence Europe) – The European Union and Jordan should finalise their strategic and comprehensive partnership at the end of the month, several European sources announced on Thursday 9 January (see EUROPE 13529/4). The aim is to hold a signing ceremony in Brussels on 29 January. At a meeting in Brussels on 9 January, the European Commissioner for the Mediterranean, Dubravka Šuica, Jordan’s Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs, Ayman Safadi, and the Minister of Planning and International Cooperation, Zeina Toukan, discussed this partnership, the situation in Syria and Gaza, and Syrian refugees in Jordan. According to her office, Ms Šuica highlighted Jordan’s role as a “factor of resilience and stability” in the region and explained that the future Pact for the Mediterranean will be a pact between “true and equal partners, based on shared values”.
