10/01/2025 (Agence Europe) – In the face of attacks from the future US administration, the Presidents of the European Council, António Costa, and the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen, reiterated that the United States was one of the EU’s “closest” partners and that they were “committed to strengthening the transatlantic bond”. On X, they said they were looking forward to a positive engagement with the new US administration, “based on our common values and shared interests”. “In a rough world, Europe and the United States are stronger together”, they said. According to the Presidents, “for the EU it is essential to protect and strengthen our fundamental democratic values, make our economy more competitive and sustainable, expand our global network of partnerships, and invest more in our security”. “The EU will always protect our citizens and the integrity of our democracies and freedoms”, they warned.
