16/12/24 (Agence Europe) – The Council of the EU formally adopted the regulation on the approval and market surveillance of non-road mobile machinery (NRMM) circulating on public roads on Monday 16 December (see EUROPE 13356/7), despite Slovakia’s negative vote. This regulation harmonises road safety requirements for self-propelled machinery, such as lawnmowers, harvesters or bulldozers, which have to drive on public roads. It is intended to replace existing national regulatory regimes and to reduce costs, administrative burdens and delays for businesses. Already approved by the European Parliament, the text will enter into force twenty days after its publication in the Official Journal of the EU. It will apply three years later in all Member States.
