16/12/2024 (Agence Europe) – On Monday 16 December, the European Commission sent a letter of formal notice to Bulgaria and reasoned opinions to Belgium, Spain, the Netherlands and Poland for failing to appoint or empower their national coordinators under the European Digital Services Act (DSA). Member States had until 17 February to designate and empower a national authority to monitor the application of the DSA in their territory. Although Bulgaria has designated its inspection body, it has still not laid down rules on the penalties that may be imposed by its inspection body. Belgium and Poland have still not designated a competent authority, and Spain and the Netherlands have not provided their authorities with the necessary authorisations for action. Member States now have two months to remedy these shortcomings. (IS)
