At the meeting of the European Parliament’s Committee on Internal Market and Consumer Protection (IMCO) on Thursday 12 December, Brando Benifei (S&D, Italian) gave a brief overview of the latest discussions of the Working Group on the Implementation and Enforcement of the Artificial Intelligence Regulation (AI Act), of which he is co-chair.
The working group discussed the recent “General-Purpose AI Code of Practice” (see EUROPE 13524/11), the first draft of which was presented by the Commission in mid-November.
“Certain measures need to be clarified and strengthened”, said Brando Benifei, citing in particular the mandatory sharing of information, which should be able to be used to “assess the algorithmic biases of models and compliance with the Data Protection Regulation”.
The working group also believes that the methodology relating to the concept of systemic risk needs to be clarified and asks that the Commission include in the second version of the code the obligation for suppliers to have “an assessment of systemic risks and their mitigation by an independent expert”.
The second version of the code should be published next week. (Original version in French by Isalia Stieffatre)
