12/12/24 (Agence Europe) – More than 90 organisations joined forces in a statement published by WWF Europe on Thursday 12 December to oppose the idea that the directive on the publication of sustainability information by companies could represent a threat to competitiveness. The WWF is referring to a recent omnibus proposal by Ursula von der Leyen for legislation designed to reduce the administrative burden. The signatories see this as a “deregulation agenda” and believe that the urgent need is to implement the regulations. They call on the EU to guarantee clarity for businesses, “instead of playing ping-pong with the legal framework”. Changes to standards driven by a short-termist political agenda risk “disrupting the market”. They point out that the transparency required by the directive is proportional to the impact and risks of companies, and that the directive concerns less than 0.2% of all EU companies. (FS)
