10/12/2024 (Agence Europe) – On Tuesday 10 December, the European Commission decided to pay Moldova €50 million in the near future - €45 million in loans and €5 million in grants - as part of the macrofinancial assistance totalling €295 million (€145 million in 2023 - see EUROPE 13190/27 - and €150 million in 2022 - see EUROPE 12925/23) that has been granted since 2022 to this candidate country for accession to the European Union. This financial support will help the Moldovan authorities to cover part of their budget requirements for 2024 and to support their reform programme in conjunction with the IMF’s current programme. According to the Commission, Moldova has complied with the preconditions for the payment of aid, such as strengthening the rule of law, defining the competences of the anti-corruption package, stepping up the fight against the black economy and strengthening the energy sector.
