10/12/24 (Agence Europe) – A new feature of the ‘von der Leyen II’ Commission is the holding of meetings between European Commissioners, according to their political affiliation, to prepare the weekly meeting of the College. The latter is now dominated by the European Christian Democrats (EPP), who hold fourteen commissioner posts. On Tuesday 10 December, they were due to dine with the President of the Commission, Ursula von der Leyen, who headed the EPP party list in the European elections in June. The Social Democrat and Liberal families each provided five representatives on the College. It should also be noted that teams (‘clusters’) of European Commissioners will not be able to make decisions without the approval of the Executive Vice-President leading a cluster, unlike the practice that existed under the ‘von der Leyen I’ Commission. In early December, the ‘von der Leyen II’ Commission adopted its internal working rules (see EUROPE 13539/18). (MB)
