10/12/2024 (Agence Europe) – The new rules on the classification, labelling and packaging of chemicals came into force on Tuesday 10 December (see EUROPE 13397/17). These rules aim to provide better protection for consumers, workers and the environment, while facilitating the free movement of products containing dangerous substances within the single market. In particular, they require greater transparency on chemical hazards in advertising and online offers, as well as simplified digital labelling to make products easier to read. The revised regulation also speeds up the identification of dangerous substances, with more information sent to poison control centres to manage medical emergencies. Companies will have to comply with these new requirements following a progressive timetable, with initial obligations from1 July 2026 and full application by 2029. (FS)
