On Tuesday, 10 December, Polish authorities officially unveiled the political priorities and visual identity of the Polish Presidency of the Council of the European Union for the first half of 2025.
During its second six-monthly Presidency of the Council after that in 2011, Poland intends to focus Member States’ actions on strengthening European security in all its dimensions: defence and security, protection of citizens and borders, resistance to interference and disinformation, the energy transition, competitive and resilient agriculture, and public health.
In the area of defence, the Polish government notably wishes to launch discussions on the thorny issue of funding. On Monday, Agnieszka Bartol, Poland’s ambassador to the EU, had expressed (see EUROPE 13541/21) her belief that before [Member States] start thinking about terms and amounts, they should start their reflections on this issue by asking themselves, ‘What are we funding?’
It falls to one of her predecessors, Piotr Serafin—who has become the European commissioner for budget—to draw up the European Commission’s future proposal on the post-2027 multiannual financial framework (see EUROPE 13520/4).
