21/10/24 (Agence Europe) – COP16 on biodiversity began on Monday 21 October in Cali, Colombia. It will run until 1 November, with the main objectives of adopting and finalising a plan to monitor the implementation of the Kunming-Montreal global framework – adopted at COP15 in 2022 – and mobilising financial resources to make it a reality. The target set at COP15 is to mobilise at least $200 billion a year in national and international funding for biodiversity by 2030. To this end, the Council of the EU has stated its intention to revise the resource mobilisation strategy (see EUROPE 13503/10). (FS)
