31/07/2024 (Agence Europe) – Corteva (formerly DowDupont/Pioneer) has received two new import approvals for transgenic maize, the Test Biotech organisation announced on Wednesday 31 July. The plants produce insecticides and are resistant to herbicides. The CRISPR/Cas technique was used in one of the maize plants to insert additional genes into the genetic material. This is the first time that the EU has approved plants developed using new genomic techniques (NGT), says Test Biotech (see EUROPE 13453/3). The genetically modified maize plants are registered under the names DP915635 and DP23211, and Corteva has filed patent applications for both NGT products. The Council of the EU has not yet reached a common position on the proposal governing the use of NGTs. More details: https://aeur.eu/f/d6o (LC)
