31/07/2024 (Agence Europe) – “The Austrian federal government appoints Finance Minister Magnus Brunner as Austria’s new European Commissioner” announced Austrian Chancellor Karl Nehammer on X. “Magnus Brunner is an experienced politician with a high level of expertise in financial, economic and competition policy at national and European level“, explained the chancellor. He is putting only one name forward, while President of the European Commission Ursula von der Leyen has asked for one male candidate and one female candidate per country. The current Austrian Commissioner, Johannes Hahn, who is completing his third term of office, said he was convinced that Mr Brunner would work competently for Europe. “You can look forward to an exciting and rewarding job”, he told his possible successor on X.
