31/07/2024 (Agence Europe) – On 19 July, the European Commission warned Chinese biodiesel producers that it would impose a provisional anti-dumping duty on their biodiesel exports to the EU on 16 August (see EUROPE 13318/28). The customs duty should vary between 12.8% and 36.4% depending on the company, subject to adjustment. In a press release, the European Biodiesel Board expressed disappointment that sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) was not included in the products covered by the tariffs. The Farm Europe agricultural policy think-tank explained that China was fraudulently labelling biodiesel as an advanced sustainable biofuel derived from raw materials included in the list of fuels deemed renewable by the Renewable Energy Directive (RED). According to Farm Europe, it is “very likely the real raw material used is palm-oil coming from any origin including recently deforested areas”.
