EU pays first tranche of its emergency financial support of €150 million to Palestinian Authority

On Wednesday 31 July, the European Union disbursed the first tranche of short-term emergency financial support of €150 million to the Palestinian Authority (see EUROPE 13457/1).

Of this sum, €58 million in grants, through the PEGASE mechanism, will help pay salaries and pensions of West Bank civil servants and support vulnerable families. The remaining €92 million will come from the European Investment Bank through a credit line to the Palestine Monetary Authority.

Subsequent payments of this short-term emergency financial aid of €400 million should follow in August and September, subject to progress in implementing the Palestinian Authority’s reform agenda.

The EU is the largest provider of external aid to the Palestinians, with an indicative amount of almost €1.2 billion for the period 2021-2024, of which more than €890 million have already been adopted. (Original version in French by Camille-Cerise Gessant)
