15/07/2024 (Agence Europe) – The regulation on monitoring and reducing methane emissions in the energy sector was published in the Official Journal of the EU on Monday 15 July. This text, which was supported by all Member States except Hungary in a final vote on 27 May (see EUROPE 13417/16), aims to encourage the detection and repair of methane leaks, and to limit degassing and flaring. It also introduces monitoring and transparency tools for methane emissions from oil, gas and coal imports into the EU. The regulations will come into force 20 days after publication in the Official Journal. To see the text, go to https://aeur.eu/f/d1b (PLD)
