15/07/24 (Agence Europe) – On Monday 15 July in Brussels, the European Union commemorated the victims of the global climate crisis. The Commissioner for Crisis Management, Janez Lenarčič, and government representatives took part in this second annual EU Day for the Victims of the Global Climate Crisis. Launched in 2023 following a joint declaration by the European Parliament, the EU Council and the European Commission, this day serves as a call to action to minimise climate change and better protect lives from its consequences. The ceremony is also intended to raise public awareness of the challenges of climate change. It marks the anniversary of the floods that hit eastern France, western Germany, Belgium and Luxembourg on 14 and 15 July 2021, resulting in a large number of casualties and extensive damage. (FS)
