At the Energy Community’s Donor Conference on the Ukraine Energy Support Fund, on Friday 12 July, the European Commissioner for Energy, Kadri Simson, expressed the European Commission’s concern at the damage inflicted by Russia on Ukraine’s energy infrastructure and pointed out that the Support Fund had already raised €500 million.
“Between March and June this year, Russia destroyed and significantly damaged [installations covering] around half of Ukraine’s winter demand (9.2 GW of production capacity)”, the Commissioner pointed out.
She explained that the European Commission was currently focusing all its attention on rebuilding as much capacity as possible before the winter (see EUROPE 13441/2).
With the fund reaching €500 million as of 10 July, Ms Simson called for further support in the form of donations to the Energy Community Fund or in-kind contributions in the form of energy equipment.
She also praised the EU’s civil protection mechanism, which has made it possible to provide, among other things, five large autotransformers, more than 7,700 electricity generators and almost 3,000 transformers. (Original version in French by Pauline Denys)
