11/04/2024 (Agence Europe) – On Wednesday 10 April, the European Parliament approved (by 353 votes in favour, 214 against and 55 abstentions) the text of the agreement with the Council on conservation, management and control measures applicable in the North-East Atlantic Fisheries Commission (NEAFC) area. The text improves controls on transhipment operations at sea and bans the discarding or release of catches of 22 species (cod, whiting, plaice, sole, etc.). Under the new measures, cameras and sensors will monitor landing and processing facilities for landings over 10 tonnes and when more than 3,000 tonnes of certain pelagic stocks are weighed in total per calendar year (see EUROPE 13354/28).
