03/04/2024 (Agence Europe) – On Wednesday 3 April, the European Commission announced that it had accepted the application for protection of the Croatian horseradish ‘Ludbreški hren’ in the European Union register of Protected Designations of Origin (PDO). The name ‘Ludbreški hren’ refers to the unprocessed root of the horseradish variety of the same name. The production area for this product covers the geographical area of the entire Varaždin County in Croatia. The climatic conditions, specific cultivation techniques and the growers’ know-how have helped to establish a tradition of ‘Ludbreški hren’ production and the product’s reputation. This new name has been added to the list of 3,857 agricultural products already protected at EU level. (LC)
