03/04/24 (Agence Europe) – On Wednesday 3 April, on the social network X, the European Commission welcomed the fact that the EU’s gas storage levels had reached a record high of 58% coming out of winter, at the end of March 2024. This compares with 56% for the same period in 2023 and 26% in 2022, following Russia’s invasion of Ukraine in early 2022. Following the outbreak of war, on 27 June 2022, the EU adopted a new regulation on gas storage to ensure security of supply at reasonable prices (see EUROPE 12980/3). Secondly, the EU agreed on a target of 90% gas storage by 1 November 2023. This objective was actually achieved in August 2023, enabling 99% to be reached in November 2023 (see EUROPE 13284/10). (PLD)
