13/02/2024 (Agence Europe) – On Friday 9 February, the Member States’ representatives to the EU (Coreper) validated the agreement reached in January with the European Parliament on new CO2 emission standards for new heavy-duty vehicles (see EUROPE 13331/15). This regulation sets targets for 2030, 2035 and 2040 in order to achieve the EU’s climate ambitions by 2030 and achieve climate neutrality by 2050. It also aims to encourage a growing share of zero-emission vehicles in the EU heavy vehicle fleet. The texts still have to be approved by the European Parliament before they come into force. The vote in the Committee on the Environment, Public Health and Food Safety is scheduled for Wednesday 14 February, before final approval during the plenary session.
