17/01/24 (Agence Europe) – On the evening of Tuesday 16 January, negotiators from the European Parliament and the EU Council came close to reaching an agreement on the revised ‘AMLD 6’ directive on the fight against money laundering and terrorist financing (see EUROPE 13326/2). According to our information, one point remains to be clarified. Given that it affects the strengthened ‘AMLR’ regulation, which is the subject of a negotiation meeting on the evening of Wednesday 17 January, the two European institutions intend to conclude their negotiations in this way. The two texts should then be the subject of a provisional agreement. The money laundering package would be finalised before the end of the current mandate. All that remains is to determine the headquarters and budget allocated to the future European Anti-Money Laundering Authority (AMLA) (see EUROPE 13318/27). (AD)
