20/12/2023 (Agence Europe) – On Wednesday 20 December, the Member States’ ambassadors to the EU (Coreper) approved the provisional agreement reached with the European Parliament on the future European Anti-Money Laundering Authority (AMLA). On Wednesday 13 December, the negotiators agreed on the contours of the AMLA, in particular its supervisory powers and governance (see EUROPE 13313/12). With regard to the seat, on Monday 18 December the European Parliament and the EU Council agreed to hold joint public hearings of the nine candidate cities to host the headquarters of the AMLA (see EUROPE 13316/16). The final decision on the location of the AMLA’s seat will be taken by the co-legislators at an informal interinstitutional meeting at political level, during which representatives of the Parliament and the EU Council will vote together at the same time, with the same number of votes allocated to each co-legislator.
