20/12/2023 (Agence Europe) – On Wednesday 20 December, the Polish Permanent Representation to the European Union reacted to our article on the draft regulation on the coordination of social security schemes (see EUROPE 13317/17), stating that it had not blocked a potential agreement in the Council of the European Union. “Poland was among sixteen Member States that could not support the last version of the Spanish Presidency mandate. This implies that, in order to obtain a qualified majority, the Spanish Presidency needed to unblock at least four Member States’ positions, so it did not depend solely on Poland’s position. Therefore, the statement suggesting that ‘Poland [was] a key country for achieving a qualified majority’ seems unjustified in this context”, the office of the Polish Permanent Representation stated. The paper has been corrected online in French and English. (SP)
