17/01/24 (Agence Europe) – On 12 January, Ladislav Hamran, President of Eurojust, the European Judicial Cooperation Agency, and Javier E. Caraballo Salazar, the Attorney General of the Republic of Panama, signed a cooperation agreement aimed at stepping up the fight against organised crime. This agreement formalises the presence of Eurojust contact points in Panama and aims to facilitate communication to speed up the processing of requests for judicial cooperation, particularly in the fight against cross-border crime, money laundering, drug trafficking and trafficking in human beings. The agreement, which came into force immediately, includes provisions on the exchange of strategic information and data protection. In August 2022, Eurojust also signed a similar agreement with the Ibero-American Association of Public Prosecutors, with Panama becoming the first Latin American country to sign such an agreement with the European agency.
