European Parliament criticises Norway’s decision to move forward with Arctic seabed mining

On Wednesday 17 January in Strasbourg, the majority of MEPs and the European Commission condemned Norway’s recent decision to move forward with seabed mining in the Arctic. A European Parliament resolution on this subject will be voted on at the plenary session in early February.

The European Commission has defended the continued ban on seabed mining until scientific advice demonstrates that these techniques have no deleterious effects on the environment and marine biodiversity.
