Late last night (Wednesday 29 and Thursday 30 November), the European Parliament and the Council of the European Union reached a provisional political agreement on the directive aimed at countering the so-called ‘strategic lawsuits against public participation’ (SLAPPs), which are used against certain journalists, human rights defenders and civil society organisations.
