21/11/23 (Agence Europe) – On Tuesday 21 November in Strasbourg, the European Parliament approved the compromise text between the EU institutions on the rules of the EU bluefin tuna catch documentation programme (see EUROPE 13254/34). This text aims to implement in Community law the conservation and management measures adopted by the International Commission for the Conservation of Atlantic Tunas (ICCAT) as part of its bluefin tuna catch documentation programme, the aim of which is to identify the origin of all bluefin tuna (see EUROPE 12892/14). The report by Gabriel Mato (EPP, Spanish) on this matter was adopted with 600 votes in favour, 1 against and 5 abstentions. The EU Council still needs to adopt this regulation.
