Recommendations of EDPB and EDPS to provide digital euro project with better guarantees of confidentiality

The European Data Protection Board (EDPB) and the European Data Protection Supervisor (EDPS) published, on Friday 17 November, a Joint Opinion on the European Commission’s proposal to establish a legal framework for the digital euro (see EUROPE B13211A11), should such a digital currency be launched by the Governing Council of the European Central Bank (ECB). The EDPB and EDPS stress that the added value of a digital euro lies mainly in its confidentiality.
