09/11/23 (Agence Europe) – By adopting the report by Grace O’Sullivan (Greens/EFA, Irish) on conservation measures applicable in the area covered by the Northwest Atlantic Fisheries Organisation (NAFO) on Thursday 9 November (533 votes in favour, 51 against and 11 abstentions), the European Parliament has adopted its position on this proposal, which transposes the NAFO measures of September 2022 into Community law (see EUROPE 13135/29). They concern obligations regarding the presentation of research programmes, provisions on the closure of fishing in zone 3M for redfish, bans on fishing, landing and retention on board of Greenland shark and the cross-listing of NAFO IUU vessels, if these vessels have been listed in other organisations. 40 EU vessels fish in the NAFO Regulatory Area.
